Desperately Seeking Skinny

As mentioned afore, I work on a college campus. "Fashion" stares me in the face all day long. Right now, every single girl I see has the on "skinny jeans" with boots. Seeing as I'm desperately fighting the "mom look," I went and got me some skinny jeans.

I didn't really want to spend a caboodle of cash on skinny jeans that don't actually make me look skinny or look young enough to wear them. So, I laid out a whole $11 at JCPen.ney. It's true. They were on clearance and they're kinda cute...till you look around back. There's these big-azzzz, copper-colored brads in the shape of a breast cancer/aids ribbon. I figure I'll just cover that up with one of those cute long-ish cardigan thingy that are all the rage.

So I stuff my oversized self into my skinny-sized jeans and cram on some boots, and hey, what d'ya know, I look like a middle-aged mom desperately trying not to look like a middle-aged mom. Emphasis on the desperate. You see, there's more than the average muffin-top awaiting me at the top of my newly found skinny jeans. It's not even a bagel. More like a whole damn cake...oozing out. I try disguising it with the same sweater that's covering up the cheesy design on my jean pockets which doesn't really work....layers adds more girth.

My intern noticed my skinny jeans right away. "Those are so cute!" She squealed. I know as soon as I turned my back she was texting all her friends "OMG my boss has the CHEESIEST skinny jeans on EVER. And she's got a HUGE muffin top. ROTFL."

One of the AA's took one look at me and mentioned that all I needed was a Harley to make my outfit complete. Hmmmm. Not really what I was going for.

I'm thinking that these skinny jeans sure looked a whole lot better on me when they were all the rage in Jr. High. I should probably heed the sage advice that "if it was in fashion once before in your lifetime, you probably shouldn't wear it again." But I'll probably just get a bigger sweater.

very funny! but we see ourselves diff than others do - you don't strike me at that crazy-mid-age-lady-trying-too-hard type....

I searched and search for new jeans just last weekend. I ended up with a fab "new" pair from the local thrift store. $10! I couldn't justify spending $$ on pants to fit my pp fuffy tummy and big butt. horrible.

I am sure you look great! I like looser jeans, swear by the Levi's 505.

I love my skinny jeans, but I wish they actually looked good on me! Now I go mostly with the bootcut...

Nice to work in a place where everyone feels free to comment on your attire!

Oh man, I am Terrified of the skinny jean. I may love the way my legs look, but the muffin top is anything but flattering. Hmmm am I wearing Mom jeans without being a Mom (yet)??

I'm trying to learn that how I see myself is not how everyone else sees me. I am way more critical on myself then anyone else can be. I bet you looked slammin' in your new jeans. Work it girl!
I am finding this a really hard age to dress. I still dress kind of young because so much geared towards my age seem to old. I decided I would rather go for young.

I'm of the opinion that skinny jeans look good on about 0.01% of the population and even then it's a very fine line LOL

I almost cried when my favorite jeans got redesigned. Now I'm going to have to re-try on everything at the stores again. This time I'm buying more than just 2 pairs!

Wear your skinny jeans proudly! The interns need to talk about something!!!

I think I purchased a pair and then proceeded to gain a dress size... they're sitting in the closet (probably laughing)...

Your daughter is ADORABLE!!! So worth the not-fitting-into-skinny-jeans-perfectly-right-now feeling. Because despite how all of us can reassure you that you looked fabulous, all that matters is what you think.

Happy ICLW!

I love skinny jeans and I'm not skinny. Your post was so funny! I have teenage employees and who knows what they say about me. :)

You could wear a tunic over those jeans. Mid-thigh for example. In Real Simple (this month's issue), there are models for different figures. That would be very nice with skinny jeans.

Skinny jeans are disgusting. My fat Asian calves have trouble fitting into them.
Besides, fashion keeps on going round in circles. What is apparently trendy and "new" now is the same stuff my ancestors wore in their farm. >.>

This made me laugh so hard! I, too, work on a university campus, so I completely understand where you'r coming from. Sounds like you're workin' it though!

Oh, and love the great deal...$11, can't be beat!

Hahaha, I love it. I cheat and buy my skinny jeans a size too loose- they still tuck in the boots, and poof, no muffin top. You still have to wear the big sweater, though...

skinny jeans are another of those fashion things that only look good on like 5 people in the whole world. It wouldn't stop me trying to squeeze into them though :) I'm sure you don't look like a middle aged mum trying not to look like one.
